History
& Winery

Our history dates back to the year 1900, when Tomaso Sontacchi, started to work as a vineyard estate manager at remarkable Zdenko Turković Estate in City of Kutjevo.

Today in our vineyards in Venje and Kutjevo we grow such varieties as Graševina, Muller Thurgau, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Portugieser – mostly red grapes. Our winery is nestled in the heart of Kutjevo, at Graševina square in converted old brick masonry stable.

Winemaking

As a registered integrated producer in viticulture we promote viticulture that respects the environment. We maintain a high biological diversity in the ecosystem of the vineyard and in surrounding areas.

From estate grown grapes, our wines are fermented with the wild yeasts native to its terroir. Storage capacity of winery is 40.000 liters (10.500 gallons).

Wines
& Tasting

Sontacchi’s historic estate offers various wine tasting rooms where guests can sample a selection of fine wines and learn about winemaking. Except our ordinary stand alone varietal bottling of Graševina and Pinot Noir, the most famous is our legendary red cuveé named Kutjevački Kitokret. Wines are fermented and maturated in stainless steel vats and Slavonian oak barrels.

 

Sontacchi wines

Kitokret 0,75l

Venje appelation. All of the fruit was gently destemed and crushed. Spontaneous fermentation occured with indigenous yeast populations. Fermentation in open vats with punching down method. Blend of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Inox tank maturation, filled without filtration.

Kitokret 1l

Venje appelation. All of the fruit was gently destemed and crushed. Spontaneous fermentation occured with indigenous yeast populations. Fermentation in open vats with punching down method. Blend of Portugiser, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Inox tank maturation, filled without filtration. Closed with screwcap Vinotwist.

Pinot Noir

Appelation Kutjevo, Vinkomir slope. Pinot noir 100%. All of the fruit was gently destemed and crushed. Fermentation in open vats with punching down method. Maturation – 12 months in used barrique barrels (Slavonian oak).

Kitokret (S) 0,75l

Venje appelation, best locations. Blend of Cabernet Franc (90%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (10%). Spontaneous fermentation occured with indigenous yeast populations. Fermentation in open vats with punching down method. Maturation – 12 months in used barrique barrels (Slavonian oak). Filled without filtration. Closed with diam3 cork.
